ASUS Announces ROG Crosshair X670E Extreme Motherboard
ASUS pulled back the veil on its latest AMD motherboard, the ROG Crosshair X670E Extreme. The new motherboard was announced in conjunction with AMD’s launch of its Ryzen 7000 Series processors and its accompanying AM5 chipset.
Getting into its specifications, the X670E Extreme is, once again, an AM5 motherboard that a brand new LGA 1718 socket, to accommodate the new Ryzen 7000 series CPUs. Aesthetically and as it has been with most ASUS motherboards since the launch of its Intel 12th Gen motherboards, this model comes with AniMe Matrix LEDs built into its covers.
For that matter, the entirety of the X670E Extreme is also fitted with heatsink, designed to passively wick away the heat from its VRMs, MicroFine alloy chokes, and those premium 10K black metallic capacitors, whenever the motherboard is performing arduous tasks. Additionally, there’s ASUS’ ProCool II power connectors that the brand says will offer better contact with PSU plugs.
As is the case with the new AM5 motherboards, the X670E Extreme boasts support for the new DDR5 memory standard, along with PCIe Gen5 connectivity, making this motherboard a future-proof component for when other component makers begin launching products that will take full advantage of the interface.
On the subject of PCIe Gen5, the X670E Extreme also has two x16 slots built into the motherboard, as well as three additional slots, both for M.2 NVMe SSDs and the provided ROG Gen-Z.2 card.
Unsurprisingly, the X670E Extreme also ships out with the support of a long list of high-speed ports, including the new USB4 20Gbps, that in turn provides access to 60W charging. It also supports USB 3.2 Gen2 but in the case of the X670E Extreme, its front-panel USB 3.2 Gen2 connector is capable enough to support Quick Charge 4+. In addition, the X670E Extreme also supports the new Wi-Fi 6E standard, plus a built-in Intel 2.5Gb Ethernet port and Marvell AQtion 10Gb Ethernet port.
Lastly, the X670E Extreme also comes built with ASUS’s SupremeFX 7.1 Surround sound audio solution, complete with an ESS ES9218PQ Quad DAC, capable of pumping out audio with a 130dB signal-to-noise ratio.
At the time of writing, ASUS did not specify local pricing or availability for the ROG Crosshair X670E Extreme motherboard.
