A year since its release, DJI has officially introduced a new variant to its current-generation flagship drone with the Mavic 3 Classic. As you may recall, the device has already been leaked months prior to its launch, and is revealed to be a more affordable version of the model. As it turns out, this information turned out to be accurate.

Technically, this is actually the third variant of the DJI Mavic 3, as the brand had initially released a standard model and a more professional-oriented Cine variant. What sets these two apart from each other is the built-in, non-replaceable 1TB SSD and the ability to record Apple ProRes 422 HQ found on the latter. Despite this, both models are equipped with the same dual camera setup which consists of a 24mm Hasselblad-enhanced 20 MP shooter and a 12 MP telephoto. The newly introduced Mavic 3 Classic, however, only comes with one camera.

More specifically, DJI has taken away the 12 MP telephoto from the series’ latest member of its current-gen flagship drone in favour of offering consumers a more affordable variant. This move proves to be quite significant apparently, as the Classic arrives at RM 2,920 less than the standard Mavic 3. And even more cheaper if you decide to opt for the drone-only package, which excludes the controller, 65 W charger, USB-C cable, and other accessories.

Even though it lacks the second camera, the Mavic 3 Classic retains the series’ Hasselblad 20 MP primary. Despite its pricing, this iteration is not completely a stripped-down version either, as it actually comes with identical specifications and features as the standard model.

Besides the aforementioned imaging system, the drone is equipped with the same 3-axis gimbal for stabilisation, omnidirectional obstacle avoidance sensors, DJI’s OcuSync 3+ transmission technology, Advanced RTH (return to home), Advanced Pilot Assistance System (APAS) 5.0, ActiveTrack 5.0, 8 GB of internal storage, and a microSD slot for memory expansion. Similarly, it also supports the 5,000 mAh Mavic 3 Intelligent Flight Battery that allows for up to 46 minutes of flight time, and supports 65 W fast charging via USB-C.

Features-wise, you can expect the same offerings from the standard variant on the newer Mavic 3 Classic as well – minus the optical zooming capabilities, of course. These include the ability to record up to 5.1K videos at up to 50 fps, DCI 4K at up to 120 fps and 1080p at up to 200 fps, as well as capture 20 MP still images in 12-bit RAW format.

Based on DJI Malaysia’s listing on its official website, the Mavic 3 Classic is available in three options: The aforementioned drone-only package for RM 6,459, a standard bundle for RM 6,879, and a Picture Perfect bundle which includes the more advanced DJI RC controller for RM 7,579. The new drone is readily available to order via the brand’s web store and its official Shopee page.
