DJI has officially unveiled its latest smartphone gimbals, the Osmo Mobile (OM) 6 and OM SE. Just in case you missed it, both devices had been leaked extensively by WinFuture’s Roland Quandt just days ahead of the company’s launch event which was held yesterday.

As it turns out, the information provided by Quandt is yet again accurate. The DJI OM 6 is revealed to mostly retain its predecessor’s design, complete with a foldable mounting arm, magnetic-based detachable phone clamp, built-in extension rod, and a Bluetooth-based control interface on its grip section. Newly introduced to the gimbal is a knob on its left side which replaces the slider control for zooming and focussing, as well as a new status indicator on top of the controls which displays information such as battery level and which gimbal mode that is currently active. The latter also has an integrated button that lets you switch between the four different modes that are available on the OM 6.

DJI’s new flagship smartphone gimbal also comes with 3-axis stabilisation as well as the new and improved ActiveTrack 5.0 system with wider tracking coverage and also allows you to steadily track subjects from longer distances. Also onboard is a 1,000 mAh non-removable battery that is capable of lasting up to six hours and a half hours of operating time. Its onboard USB-C based fast charging supports a rate of 10 W, which DJI claims would take approximately over an hour for a full charge.

As mentioned earlier, the OM 6 comes with four different stabilisation modes: the Follow mode for standard video recordings, Tilt Locked for horizontal or orbiting shots, FPV mode for recording more dynamic videos, and SpinShot which lets you control camera rotation via the gimbal’s joystick. Other features available when paired together with DJI’s mobile app includes Timelapse, DynamicZoom, Gesture Control for selfies, Panorama, and the one-tap editing tool Story Mode.

There’s also the new Quick Launch feature which automatically powers on the DJI OM 6 as soon as you unfold it. Additionally, this system also includes the ability to quickly launch the DJI Mimo app on your phone once you’ve snapped on a compatible smartphone on the gimbal’s mounting arm. However, this particular feature is MagSafe-based, so it can only be used by certain iPhone models.

Next on the list of newly launched DJI gimbals is the OM SE. This model bears a resemblance to the old Osmo Mobile 4, but with more current internal hardware and also features the new status indicator above its controls. Besides that, it also comes with 3-axis stabilisation and a larger 2,600 mAh battery that can last up to eight hours of running time. Being a more budget-friendly option, DJI unfortunately excluded some features such as the built-in extension rod and the new Quick Launch function.

The new DJI Osmo Mobile 6 and OM SE smartphone gimbals are priced at RM 759 and RM 459 respectively. Undeniably, the newer flagship model arrives much pricier than its predecessor, which currently retails for RM 689. Meanwhile, the more budget friendly model is – interestingly enough – shares the same price tag as the older DJI OM 4 SE. That aside, both devices are now available in Malaysia and can be ordered via the brand’s official online store on Shopee.
