GoPro has officially launched its brand new Hero 11 series of action cameras, which consists of the more traditional Black model and the more compact Mini variant. As you may recall, both devices have been leaked extensively a week prior to their debut, thanks to leakster Roland Quandt of WinFuture.
As it turns out, Quandt’s information has been accurate regarding the duo. To quickly recap, the new GoPro Hero 11 Black sports the same design as its predecessor, where it features dual displays that’s located in front and on the back of its body. More specifically, the front-facing display is a 1.4-inch LCD screen, while found on the back is a 2.27-inch LCD touchscreen. Additionally, GoPro says the device itself is designed to be both rugged and waterproof up to a depth of 10 metres.
Housed within its camera module is a new 27 MP CMOS sensor, along with a lens that provides a wider field-of-view when compared to its predecessor. Thanks to its onboard GP2 processor, the Hero 11 Black is capable of recording videos at 5.3K resolution at 60 fps, 4K at 120 fps, and snap photos at 24.7 MP resolution. Further enhancing its video recording capabilities are the built-in HyperSmooth 5.0 electronic stabilisation system, Horizon Lock, as well as 2.7K 8x and 4K 4x slo-mo capture.
Features-wise, the device comes with FullFrame and HyperView shooting modes that lets users capture footage in 8:7 and 16:9 aspect ratios respectively, and there’s a new Automatic Highlight Videos mode that compiles your most recent videos in a neatly laid-out manner. Also newly added are three low-light modes including Vehicle Lights Trails, Star Trails, and Light Paint. Like its predecessor, it also comes with the built-in PowerTools modes that includes Hindsight which captures up to 30 seconds of video before you hit the record button, the self-explanatory Scheduled Capture, and Duration Capture which lets you select the length of time that you wish to record.
This time around, GoPro is including the long-lasting Enduro Battery together with the Hero 11 Black as standard. The removable battery carries a capacity of 1,720 mAh and is capable of withstanding extreme cold weather. Besides that, also included together with the action camera as part of its standard bundle is a carrying case, adhesive mounts, a mounting buckle with thumb screw, a 32GB Sandisk Extreme SSD card, and a USB-C cable.
Meanwhile, the new GoPro Hero 11 Mini is pretty much a compact version of its more traditional sibling, though it lacks the front and rear LCD displays. That being said, it is equipped with the same hardware as the Black, with a single button on top of the device to control most of its operations. It does have a tiny screen beside the button which displays simplified information such as battery levels and shooting modes.
Speaking of modes, a number of the onboard features from the Black model is also available on the Mini, save for the major ones such as the new low-light shooting modes and PowerTools. However, you can still easily edit your captured footage in post via GoPro’s Quick App by syncing the compact camera to your smartphone. It also lacks a GPS module and stereo microphones, and comes with a smaller 1,500 mAh removable battery.
Though not launched for the local market just yet, consumers can already pre-order the GoPro Hero 11 Black via the company’s global store on Shopee. According to its listing, the new action camera starts at RM 2,399 for the standard bundle and maxes out at RM 3,730 for the Biking Bundle. For now, it is not known whether the pricing will differ once the product is made official in Malaysia.
As for the Hero 11 Mini variant, those interested will have to wait a while longer as it would only be available for certain markets on 25 October 2022. No word whether our region is included in that list just yet. For your reference, the more compact action camera is listed at a starting price of US$ 299 (~RM 1,355) on GoPro’s global website.
