Here’s The Official First Look At The Xiaomi 13 Ultra
Xiaomi has officially unveiled the design of its upcoming Xiaomi 13 Ultra flagship ahead of the phone’s launch that is slated to happen tomorrow. From what’s shown, it appears most leaks that surfaced prior to this have been accurate, especially those recently provided by reliable tipster Steve Hemmerstoffer (aka OnLeaks).
The official images reveal the Xiaomi 13 Ultra will indeed sport an elevated upper half, which houses its quad 50 MP camera setup within a large glass-protected circular. According to the company, the phone comes with a metal alloy casing and a second-generation faux leather layer with antibacterial coating that’s also dirt resistant. The white colour variant that’s shown in the promotional images will feature a special anti-yellowing coating. Additionally, an all-green option was also teased in a short video shared on Weibo.
As for specifications, Xiaomi revealed that the 13 Ultra will be equipped with a new C7 LTPO OLED panel, which is jointly developed by both the company and China Star. It is confirmed to boast a resolution of 2K (1440 x 3200 pixels), a maximum peak brightness of 2,600 nits, and also supports HDR. Details regarding its chipset, battery capacity and other features are still kept under wraps for now.
And just in case you missed it, the company had also officially confirmed all four sensors that are featured on Xiaomi 13 Ultra last week. More specifically, championing the setup is the same 1-inch 50.3 MP Sony IMX 989 sensor from the Pro model, which is paired together with three 50 MP Sony IMX 858 sensors for its ultra-wide, 3x telephoto and 5x telephoto.
Meanwhile, a separate teaser shared by Xiaomi around the same time revealed what appears to be an exclusive case for the 13 Ultra, featuring a hand grip with a dedicated shutter button on top. Most interesting of all is the metal ring on the accessory, which suspiciously looks like a lens mount.
This isn’t the first time that the Chinese tech giant is exploring the ability to add interchangeable lens support to its smartphones, with the most notable attempt demonstrated on the 12S Ultra Concept that it showed off last year. If the ring is indeed a mount, then the Xiaomi 13 Ultra will be the first ever smartphone to officially feature this ability, albeit with help from a first-party accessory.
The top-end variant of Xiaomi’s current generation flagship series is set to launch tomorrow on 18 April 2023. The event will be live-streamed on the brand’s official website and social media channels at 7 pm local time.
