Intel Confirms 12th Generation Core i9-12900KS Launch Date: CPU To Make Debut On 5 April

Intel appears to confirm the launch date for the 12th generation Core i9-12900K, it’s most powerful desktop CPU, to-date. As per its social media blasting, the CPU will finally be making its debut on 5 April, which is 6 April for us.

The official launch date finally puts an end to all the speculation and rumours but more importantly, it finally means that retailers and long-time fans of the chipmaker won’t have to resort to under-the-table sales of the CPU, as evidenced earlier in the month, when news about the CPU prematurely going on sale broke. To be clear, that premature selling of the CPU is still ongoing, with the US-based online retailer, Newegg, being the most recent outfit to do so. Not only that, it also indirectly confirmed the MSRP of the CPU at a wallet hemorrhaging US$799 (~RM3366).

To quickly recap on the specifications of the 12900KS, the CPU features the same 16-core, 24-threads layout, comprising of eight Golden Cove P-Cores and eight Gracemont E-Cores, like the 12900K, which it will dethrone as Intel’s king-of-the-hill at its launch.

On another note, Intel’s choice of launch date for the 12900KS is an interesting one, given that it is launching two whole weeks ahead of AMD’s own Ryzen 7 5800X3D, which is slated for a 20 April launch. Performance-wise, the upcoming Team Red CPU is said to perform 15% faster than the current Ryzen 9 5900X, thanks in part to its new 3D V-Cache chiplet design that features stacked L3 Cache.

It’s also significantly cheaper than the 12900KS at US$449 (~RM1891). The only drawback to the CPU though, is that it lacks any support for CPU overclocking.
