As previously announced during Belanjawan 2023, the government has officially launched the myBAS50 transit pass in Johor Bahru. The pass offers users unlimited travel on all myBAS buses in the city, with a validity date of 30 days and can be renewed monthly.

Those living in Johor can register for myBAS50 now, but the initiative won’t start until 1 April 2023. As you can tell from its name, the monthly pass costs RM50 and, similar to Rapid KL’s My50, it can only be purchased by Malaysian citizens.

There are two ways for you to use the transit pass. The first method is for you to go to a ManjaLink counter and yourself verified using your MyKad. You will then pick a start date for the pass, pay the fee, and wait 24 hours for it to be activated.

You can then use your MyKad as your myBAS50 pass by tapping in and out of the buses. It’s unclear if it will take 24 hours to activate every single time or if the waiting period is just for the first time you register. The counters can be found at JB CIQ, KSL City Mall, TF Value-Mart Nusa Bestari, Gelang Patah Bus Terminal, Senai International Airport, and Kulai Bus Terminal.

The second method is by using the LUGO app, which also requires you to verify yourself using your MyKad and waiting 24 hours for approval. After being verified, you can then pick a start then, make a payment, and scan a QR code every time you get on and off a myBAS.

The pass covers the buses under the Stage Bus Service Transformation (SBST) programme. It is a project that will expend RM150 million from the federal government over three years to boost the quality of stage bus services in Johor Bahru and its surrounding areas.
