LEGO is testing an online version of its Minifigure Factory tool which lets you create and purchase your own custom minifigure. Initially offered exclusively at its flagship stores in the US, its availability via the company‘s website now allows more people to enjoy the novelty service.
For starters, Minifigure Factory appears to be an update to Build A Minifigure, another online tool that is under beta testing which was introduced by LEGO back in February for certain regions. Similarly, the newer service lets you personalise every part of your minifigure; including its head, headwear, torso, and legs. But what really sets it apart from the somewhat older tool are the extra customisation options for the torso section, which include the ability to select different outfits, apply various patterns and decals, as well as add custom text.
In addition, you may also choose to add accessories such as food, pets and weapons to go along with your minifigure. Unfortunately, props as well as outfits from licensed releases such as the Lord of The Rings, Star Wars and Harry Potter LEGO sets are not included in the selection. This may disappoint those hoping to equip their original figure with wands or lightsabers, let alone customising it to resemble characters from the aforementioned titles.
While the new Minifigure Factory basically lets you go ham with customisation, keep in mind that LEGO will still moderate your designs. This is to prevent use of profanities, vulgar references or hate speech, as well as third party logos, names of organisations, or trademarks.
Again, like the Build A Minifigure tool, you can have LEGO ship over your creation to you. Each minifigure will cost you US$ 11.99 (~RM 53), which is a smidge more expensive than the older service’s price of US$ 9.99 (~RM 44). However, Minifigure Factory is only available for US citizens, with no plans of expanding the service to other countries for the time being.
On a somewhat related note, popular toy maker Hasbro this month had also introduced its own custom action figure line called Selfie Series. But like LEGO’s service, it is only available to those residing in the US.
