Malaysia Airlines Resumes Flights To Australia

Malaysia Airlines has announced that it is reinstating flights to Australia as the country recently reopened its borders to international tourists. Starting from today, there will be two weekly flights to Perth while Sydney gets five flights a week.

While it’s starting off slow, the flight frequency for Australia will increase in April, with five weekly flights to Perth and seven weekly flights to Sydney. For a limited time, the airline is offering all-in return tickets to Perth starting from RM1999 for economy class and RM6999 for business class seats. The promo fares are bookable until 6 March and valid for immediate travel up to 31 July.

Return flights to Sydney start from RM2929 for economy class and RM8199 for business class, bookable now for immediate travel up to 28 March. There is also a return fare promo for Melbourne, which starts from RM2699 for economy class and RM8599 for business class, bookable until 19 March and valid for immediate travel until 31 July.

This is the first time that Malaysia Airlines is supplying direct flights to Australia since it paused the routes in 2020 due to the pandemic. Budget airline AirAsia X similarly announced the resumption of its commercial service to Sydney. With the border reopening, all vaccinated visa holders are now allowed to enter Australia, though they may still be subjected to quarantine depending on the state they’re travelling to. However, Malaysia’s foreign ministry is currently in talks with Australia, as well as several other countries, to establish a vaccinated travel lane (VTL) that would completely do away with isolation requirements.
