As promised by Canon last week, the company has unveiled its first ever vlogging-focused camera, marketed under its PowerShot branding. Rather than a regular point-and-shoot, the all-new Canon PowerShot V10 is designed for content creators who want more quality and versatility than smartphones, while at the same time lacking the complexity of mirrorless or interchangeable lens cameras.

That being said, the device is revealed to sport a vertical and compact form factor that measures at 63.4 (w) x 90 (h) x 34.3 (d) mm. Situated on the upper half of the new Canon PowerShot V10 is a fixed 19mm prime lens, while below it is a large physical record button. Found behind is a 2-inch touchscreen that can be flipped out to face frontwards, and just below that are a small array of buttons for navigating menus and performing playback functions.

Additionally, on its left is a HDMI Micro out port and a 3.5mm microphone jack, while on the right is a lone USB-C port for both data transfer and charging. There’s no built-in storage, but there’s a slot that supports SD, SDHC, SDXC or UHS-I cards for keeping your video recordings or photos. Also onboard is a built-in kickstand which allows it to stand on its own at adjustable angles, and there’s a tripod socket underneath the camera in case you need it.

In terms of hardware, found behind the aforementioned 19mm prime lens is a 1-inch 20.9MP f/2.8 CMOS sensor, which enables for 4K UHD video recordings at up to 30 frames per second (fps) or FHD 1080p at 60 fps. Canon notes that the PowerShot V10 will only record at 13.1MP when shooting videos due to the wider 16:9 aspect ratio, and at only 15.2MP when used to shoot photos. In regards to the latter, keep in mind that the camera does not support RAW format, but instead captures photos in 8-bit JPEG.

Other features to take in account include its ability to digitally zoom at up to 3x magnification, as well as the onboard digital image stabilisation and auto-level function. Unfortunately, the PowerShot V10 does not come with any optical stabilisation technology. Besides that, it also has over 14 creative Movie Colour filters, colour tone adjustments, Canon’s Movie Auto ND Filter feature, and numerous autofocus modes that can be controlled via touchscreen. The latter of which includes One-Shot AF, Movie Servo AF, Face Tracking and others.

Audio-wise, the PowerShot V10 comes with built-in dual stereo microphones that can record front and rear sounds, while there’s also a third mic that helps filter background noise. It also has Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.2 support, which enables for wireless smartphone connectivity as well as live streaming capability.

Lastly, powering the new camera is a built-in 1,250mAh battery. The company claims that the device is capable of providing over two hours of 4K playback time, 55 minutes of recording in 4K (over an hour for FHD), and approximately 290 still shots via single charge.

Canon Malaysia has confirmed that the PowerShot V10 will be released in Malaysia next month, and is set to retail for RM 1,999. The new shooter is only offered in either black or silver colour options.
