If you’re in the market for a midrange OPPO handset but decided to skip out on both of the Reno models for 2022 (for some reason), then we have good news for you. According to several leaks that were shared recently, it appears that the BBK-owned company may be gearing up to reveal the Reno9, the third and probably last iteration of its popular midrange series for this year.

GSMArena reports that both the phone and its packaging have appeared in live photos, with the former seemingly caught in the wild not too long ago. Based on these images, which were initially shared on Chinese social media platform Weibo, the new Reno9 (or a variant of it) is shown to feature a punch-hole cutout on its display as well as a more conventional camera island design, though the cameras retain the same alignment as its predecessor. That being said, the island also looks to be much flatter for this model.

As for specifications, leakster Digital Chat Station says the Reno9 will allegedly sport a 6.7-inch OLED display with 1080p resolution, 120 Hz refresh rate, and an under-display fingerprint scanner. Under its hood is believed to be a Snapdragon 778G chipset that is paired together with 12 GB of RAM, though its internal storage capacity is still not known.

Powering the phone, the tech insider adds, is a 4,500 mAh battery with 67 W fast charging support – which is actually a downgrade if true, as the Reno8 came with 80 W. Additionally, it is said that the Reno9 will feature a 64 MP primary camera on its back, whereas its display’s punch-hole cutout will house a 32 MP selfie shooter. The other sensors that make up the rest of the phone’s triple camera setup are still not known at this time.

Meanwhile, a separate rumour alleges that the Reno9 will arrive in three variants: a standard model, a Pro, and a Pro+ edition. On that note, the latter model is reportedly powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 8000 chip instead, and will have a Sony IMX766 50 MP for its primary camera.

The same report suggests that OPPO will debut the Pro and Pro+ models in China next month, while the regular variant would only launch at a later date. As usual, there’s no guarantee that all of the unofficial information regarding the Reno9 are accurate or not, that is until the company itself confirms this.
