Nokia C12 Officially Launches With Android 12 Go Edition

HMD Global has come out with its first new smartphone of 2023 in the form of the Nokia C12. A direct successor to 2021’s C10, the C12 is a budget Android device that runs on the lightweight Android 12 Go Edition operating system with an updated design and a smaller display than its predecessor.

The Nokia C12 sports a 6.3-inch 720p LCD display with a teardrop notch in the middle and is protected by what the brand advertises as “toughened glass”. While it lacks a fingerprint scanner, there is still the face unlock option alongside a promise from HMD Global that it will provide two years of security updates.

The entry-level Nokia device runs on a Unisoc 9863A1, an octa-core chipset that seems to be an upgrade from the C10’s quad-core SoC. It is paired with 64GB of internal storage and 2GB of RAM, with an option for an additional 2GB of virtual memory expansion.

As for storage expansion, the company did not list this in the C12’s spec sheet but our quick search has led us to its user manual which noted that the phone is able to support microSD cards of up to 256GB. Connectivity-wise, the support is limited to the outdated Wi-Fi 4 standard although the device still supports Bluetooth 5.2.

Rated with IP52 dust and water resistance, the C12 has also been equipped with a 3.5mm audio jack but only has a single speaker for sound though.

The phone is powered by the same removable 3,000mAh battery as its predecessor and it charges via a micro USB connector at a paltry speed of 5W. The C12 comes with two cameras in total, an 8MP primary sensor on the back while the front houses a 5MP selfie lens.

The Nokia C12 is available in three colours: Dark Cyan, Charcoal, and Light Mint. It will carry a price tag of EUR120 (~RM560) in Germany and Austria but the brand has not yet announced when it will be coming to other markets.
