realme C55 Officially Launches With Dynamic Island-Like Mini Capsule
realme finally unveiled the much-rumoured C55 smartphone, which is making its debut in the neighbouring country of Indonesia. The budget device boasts mostly average specs but what really stands out is what the brand calls the “Mini Capsule”, which seems like its attempt at making its version of Apple’s Dynamic Island that is found on the iPhone 14 Pro.
While it does seem like realme is copying Apple, it should be noted that its functions are quite limited, with it only being able to display the battery status, data usage, and certain fitness data like the step counter. Not only that but the C55 does not even have a pill-shaped cutout, instead opting for a regular punch-hole front camera and implementing the Mini Capsule solely on a software level.
On to the specs, the realme C55 sports a 6.72-inch 90Hz LCD display with a peak brightness of 680 nits. The affordable phone comes equipped with a side-mounted fingerprint reader, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and runs on realme UI 4.0 based on Android 13.
Under the hood, it runs on a MediaTek Helio G88 chipset and can be configured with up to 8GB of RAM and between 128GB and 256GB of storage. The dual-SIM card tray also has an additional slot for a microSD card, supporting storage expansion up to 1TB.
Powering the C55 is a 5000mAh battery with support for 33W SUPERVOOC wired charging. As for the cameras, it features a single 64MP primary sensor on the back while the punch-hole cutout houses an 8MP selfie shooter.
The realme C55 comes in Sunshower and Rainy Night colour options, with availability in Indonesia on 8 March starting from Rp2499000 (~RM725) for the 6GB+128GB variant, while the 8GB+256GB model will cost Rp2999000 (~RM870). For now, the company has not said anything about the phone’s availability in other markets but it will most likely make its way to Malaysia as it was seen in the SIRIM database last week.
