Sony today has announced two new audio products designed specially for professionals, such as sound engineers and music creators. These include the MDR-MV1 Reference Monitor Headphones and the C-80 uni-directional condenser microphone, which are confirmed by the company to be available in Malaysia next month.

The Sony MDR-MV1 is touted to provide users with long-term comfort and durability, while at the same time offering them the ability to accurately reproduce sounds. In terms of design, the headphones are lightweight and feature breathable earpads as well as an adjustable headband to ensure a pleasant wearing experience even after hours of use. One special aspect is its open back structure, which is intended to reduce internally reflected sounds and eliminate acoustic resonances. Also onboard is a stereo mini-jack adapter, and a high quality replaceable and detachable cable with machined aluminium connectors is included in the package.

Internally, the headphones are equipped with uniquely developed driver units that are said to provide ultra-wideband playback (5 Hz to 80 kHz) with natural high frequencies. Together with its open back structure, the MDR-MV1 is promised to offer extended spatial sound reproducibility and accurate sound object positioning within a 360-degree space, as well as clear, hi-resolution and nuanced sound with a super-wide frequency range. Sony highlights that its Headphone Engineering team worked closely with Sony Music engineers in the development of the MDR-MV1 to ensure that it is capable of fulfilling all criterias for modern sound design.

Next up, we have the Sony C-80 uni-directional condenser mic, which features a capsule-like build with a two-part metallic anti-vibrational body structure. Dubbed as the “Noise Elimination Construction”, this design is intended to prevent microphone body acoustic vibration, thus resulting in low noise and clear sound during recordings or broadcasting. Connectivity-wise, onboard is an XLR-3-12C connector, but note that a compatible cable is not included together in the package.

Under the hood, the C-80 features a dual diaphragm configuration that enables it to suppress sonic changes with distance. It has frequency response of 20 Hz to 20 kHz, with a signal-to-noise ratio of 81.5 dB and a dynamic range of over 125.5 dB. Thanks to these robust features, Sony claims that the mic is capable of providing a realistic reproduction of the characteristics of an instrument, such as the sound of guitar strings and the resonance of its body.
