Not missing out on the earlier launch event that introduced us to the new Xperia 1 IV flagship is the latest iteration to Sony’s midrange smartphone offering, the Xperia 10 IV. As suggested by a leak by tipster Steve Hemmestoffer (aka OnLeaks) in March, this year’s model looks almost identical to its predecessor – sans a new flat-edged frame and some significant upgrades under its hood.

For starters, the Sony Xperia 10 IV sports a 6-inch display with FHD+ resolution, the phone brand’s signature 21:9 aspect ratio, 60 Hz refresh rate, and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus protection. Despite featuring some internal upgrades (which we’ll get to later), Sony touts the newer model to be the world’s lightest 5G smartphone in the market, coming in at 161 grams. It also measures at 154mm in height and 67mm in thickness, and is rated IP/65/IP68 in terms of dust/water resistance. Users will also be glad to know that the much beloved 3.5mm headphone jack is still present on top of this model.

Featured onboard is an upgraded processor: the 6nm Snapdragon 695 5G chipset by Qualcomm, which is paired together with 6GB RAM, 128GB internal storage, and extended memory support via microSD. Its battery capacity has increased to 5,000 mAh, which is 500 mAh more than its predecessor. Meanwhile, the phone’s fast charging capability via USB-C remains at 30W. Like the Xperia 1 IV, however, Sony has decided to axe both the charger and USB-C cable from the midrange phone’s packaging.

While its flagship-class cousin now sports a beefy upgrade to its imaging system, the same cannot be said for the Sony Xperia 10 IV, however. All three cameras housed within its rear array are carried over from last year’s model, which specifically consists of a 12MP primary, 8MP ultrawide, and an 8MP telephoto with up to 2x optical zoom. Found within the phone’s top bezel, on the other hand, is another 8MP sensor for its front-facing selfie camera. Unfortunately, as for video recording capabilities, all onboard cameras are only capable of filming 1080p footage at 30 fps.

Sony Malaysia has confirmed that the Xperia 10 IV will arrive locally in August, but did not disclose its expected pricing for now. For the European market, the new midrange Sony phone is priced at GBP 429 (~RM 2,307) and is offered in black, white, mint and lavender colourways.
