Acer appears to have yet again taken a different road with the unveiling of its latest product,  almost literally too. If you thought its last pedal-powered offering isn’t up your alley, then maybe you might want to consider the all-new ebii, which so happens to be the Taiwan-based tech giant’s first ever smart bike.

The ebii is exactly what you’d expect from a micro-mobility vehicle of this class, featuring an electric motor for speed assistance, onboard sensors for both safety and security, and plenty more. It is designed mainly for city use and sports a sleek and minimalist body, which consists of an aluminium alloy frame, flat handlebar, single-sided fork, as well as surrounding lights situated on its front, rear and side. Acer says the smart bike measures at 1578 mm (L) x 552 mm (W) x 1024 mm (H), weighs at only 16 kilograms, and comes with a ride height support of 145 to 185 cm.

Additionally, it has 160 mm hydraulic disk brakes, a single-sided 250 W hub motor with 48 V CAN bus that delivers 40 Nm torque and up to 25 km/h assist speed, AirFom airless tyres, as well as LTE and Bluetooth connectivity support. Powering the ebii is a removable 460 W Li-ion battery that offers 100 km of range, which also comes with fast-charging technology that allows for a full top-up in just 2.5 hours. Most interestingly, Acer says you can also use the battery pack as a power bank for your phone or laptop.

The smart bike features the AI-powered ebiiAssist function that adapts to the rider’s pedalling power, riding conditions, and preferred level of assistance. During rides, the controller leverages its AI technology to automatically adjust motor output to provide effortless riding based on users’ pedalling and route environment. Users can further utilise the bike through the ebiiGO companion app, which enables them to check recommended routes, battery life, riding speed, and more.

Safety-wise, the ebii comes with a collision detection system, and an auto-lock system with alarm function. The latter automatically locks the bike if it detects that your phone is out of the connection range, and immediately notifies you if a potential theft attempt is detected, while also triggering the onboard alarm. There’s also built-in GPS positioning which not only helps determine your current riding location, but also lets you track the ebii’s whereabouts in the event of it ending up missing.

Acer did not specify how much the ebii costs or when it will be released. That being said, it is uncertain whether the company has any plans of bringing its first-ever smart bike to Malaysia in the near future.
