Tile Now Lets You Scan For Unknown Trackers

Tile is now adding a new feature to its app that will allow users to scan and detect unwanted trackers in a move to deter stalking. The Scan and Secure feature will show you any nearby unknown Tile tags or Tile-enabled devices that may be traveling with you.

To use it, you need to download the Tile app, available on both iOS and Android, and you’ll be able to use Scan and Secure even without having an account as the scan button is placed on the login page itself. In order for it to work, your phone must have Bluetooth, Location or Location Services, and Precise Location enabled.

Once it starts scanning, users need to start walking or driving for 10 minutes, though you can’t just walk in a circle in a single location. You also shouldn’t use it on public transport as it will most likely just detect the Tiles of the other users around you.

Tag-based stalking has been a major security concern ever since Apple’s AirTag became hugely popular with its massive network. Apple has since introduced countermeasures on iOS devices and to a lesser extent, even on Android phones. Tile’s implementation is rolling out in its app within the next two weeks, so not everyone will have access to the feature right away, but it’s a welcome addition.
