Almost 500 summonses issued by Kedah JPJ on New Year’s Eve

ALOR SETAR: The Kedah Road and Transport Department (JPJ) has issued 495 summonses for various traffic offences on New Year’s Eve which fell on Saturday (Dec 31).

Its director Aman Shah Hashim said the operation codenamed Ops Khas Ambang Tahun Baru 2023 was conducted simultaneously across Kedah involving 130 officers and personnel from JPJ, the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission (MACC), the National Registration Department (JPN), the National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) and Puspakom Sdn Bhd (Puspakom).

“In the four-hour operation that started at 8pm, a total 1,421 vehicles were inspected and action taken on 300 for various offences under the Road and Transport Act and Land Public Transport Act,” he said in a statement on Sunday (Jan 1).

He said the operation was conducted to minimise road accidents involving motorcycles and also to reduce the number of deaths involving private vehicles and motorcycles.
