Azam firm on staying put, says will reveal truth when time is right

KUALA LUMPUR: Remaining firm in his decision not to quit amid the shares controversy, Tan Sri Azam Baki calls for patience and says he will reveal the truth when the time is right.

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner said he is willing to be investigated by the commission’s committees and is confident that the truth will be known to all soon.

He was quoted as telling Sinar Harian that he himself will divulge the truth when the time is right.

He also told the Malay language portal that only the Yang di-Pertuan Agong can decide to relieve him of his position.

Since the start of the year, Azam has been caught in a controversy after it was revealed that he was involved in the purchase of millions of shares in two public-listed companies in 2015.

He had declared that his brother borrowed his share trading account to do the transactions and the shares were subsequently transferred to him, but this has not stopped many groups from calling on him to step down till investigations are carried out.
