Content of ‘Pulau’ trailer different from what was submitted, says Film Censorship Board

PETALING JAYA: The content shown in the trailer for the movie “Pulau” is different from what was submitted, says the Film Censorship Board (LPF).

“LPF found that there is a difference between the content of the trailer shared on social media and the content submitted for censorship,” it said in a statement on Thursday (Jan 19).

It added that the movie has been classified as horror and not pornography as claimed online.

The board said that movie trailers that are published online do not fall under the jurisdiction of the LPF.

LPF said that it only screens films and related publicity material that will be published conventionally, and does not include online material.

“The board is always sensitive to the morals and cultures of Malaysian society and implements film screening as stipulated in the guidelines,” said the LPF.

The trailer drew flak from the public as it depicted scenes that were deemed inappropriate.

Earlier, Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil had said that he is of the opinion that the trailer was not suitable for viewing.

He said that following the release of the trailer, he had personally contacted Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC) and it is understood that the producer had agreed to withdraw the trailer and prepare a new edit.

According to Fahmi, he was also made to understand that based on the report he received, there is a possibility that some of the scenes that were cut somehow made it to the trailer.
