Contractor faces gallows for distributing drugs

IPOH: A 35-year-old contractor has been charged with distributing drugs at the Magistrate’s Court here Thursday (July 28).

He was charged under Section 39B (1) (a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 that provides the death penalty upon conviction.

According to the charge sheet, the accused, Yip Simon, allegedly committed the offence at a parking lot near Pusat Makanan Restoran Enam Enam at Jalan Raja Musa Mahadi here at around 4.40pm on July 21.

He was said to have distributed about 10.35kg of methamphetamine.

Lawyer J. Matthews, who represented the accused, asked the court to allow his client to lodge a police report.

“It is believed that there are several facts of the case that are favourable for my client,” he said.

Magistrate Noor Azreen Liana Mohd Darus set mention for the case on Oct 11 to wait for the chemical test result.

No plea was recorded and no bail was offered to the accused.

When met outside the court, Matthews said Yip’s wife was released on police bail on Thursday morning.

Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) Sufi Aiman Azmi prosecuted.

On July 21, Perak police arrested Yip and his wife with more than RM2mil worth of drugs at two locations in Ipoh.

The 20.7kg of methamphetamine was found in 20 shiny green packets.
