Cops looking for those behind offensive election banners in Kota Tinggi

KOTA TINGGI: Six banners displaying provocative messages linked to the general election have been detected by the police here.

Kota Tinggi OCPD Supt Hussin Zamora said that the cops are looking for those responsible for putting up the banners.

“On Monday (Oct 10), we detected six banners at public places, which have words of dissatisfaction on political issues and candidates for the 15th General Election written on them.

“The banners have since been removed by the Kota Tinggi District Council, and we are still on the lookout for those responsible for them,” he said in a statement here.

He added that any individuals or groups wanting to put up banners or anything similar must get approval from the local council.

“The police take this matter seriously and would take stern action against those responsible,” he said, adding that actions could be taken under Section 500 and Section 509 of the Penal Code.
