Cops nab eight for drink-driving during KL road ops

KUALA LUMPUR: Police arrested eight drivers for drink-driving during road operations over the weekend.

City Traffic Investigation and Enforcement chief Asst Comm Sarifudin Mohd Salleh said the suspects were aged between 23 and 47.

“All have been brought to the Kuala Lumpur traffic police station and will be charged with driving under the influence of alcohol,” he said in a statement on Sunday (May 8).

The same road operations led to the arrest of an 18-year-old suspect after checks showed he was using a stolen motorcycle.

Two suspects, aged 15 and 26, were also caught for falsifying number plates.

Another suspect, aged 45, tested positive for drugs after police found 1.22g of a substance suspected to be heroin.

Throughout the three-day operation that ended on Sunday, a total of 1,250 summonses were issued.

Roadblocks were set up at various locations including Jalan Genting Klang, Jalan Kuching and Jalan Raja Laut.

“A total of 22 motorcycles and three cars were seized for illegal modifications,” he said.
