Cops nab two for allegedly torching 48 motorcycles, four cars

KUALA LUMPUR: Two men have been arrested in connection with a fire that destroyed 48 motorcycles and four cars at the PPR Intan Baiduri flats here.

Sentul OCPD Asst Comm Beh Eng Lai said the two suspects, aged 31 and 39 years old, were arrested on Friday (March 4).

“We arrested the younger suspect at around 2.30pm while the other suspect was detained about four hours later.

“They were both arrested at the flats,” he said when contacted on Saturday (March 5).

He said the 31-year-old suspect tested positive for methamphetamine.

“The motive for the case is still under investigation,” he said.

It was reported that police were alerted at 4.21am on Friday (March 4) about the case.

The Fire and Rescue Department arrived at the scene and managed to put out the blaze by 4.56am.

Police and Fire and Rescue Department forensic investigators had also gone to the scene to identify the cause of the fire.

No one was injured in the incident.

Initial investigations revealed that the fire started from a motorcycle that was parked at the main entrance to the motorcycle parking lot.

Estimated losses exceeded RM300,000.

The case has been classified as arson under Section 435 of the Penal Code.
