Cops nab two men for ketum possession in Johor

JOHOR BARU: Two men have been arrested for allegedly possessing ketum leaf drinks at Kangkar Tebrau area near here.

The duo aged 25 and 28, were nabbed during a raid on Monday (Aug 29) at 5.30pm.

“We also seized several paraphernalia related to their activities,” Johor Baru South OCPD Asst Comm Raub Selamat said in a statement.

He said the seized items were two plastic containers, 110 packets of processed ketum drinks and 13 bottles of cough syrup.

ACP Raub said one suspect has previous records related to Section 12(3) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and Section 30(3) of the Poisons Act 1952.

“Initial urine test found both suspects were tested negative for drugs,” he said, adding they had been remanded from Aug 30 until Sept 2, to assist in investigation.

The case was being investigated under Section 30(3) of the Poisons Act 1952.

Under the Act, the suspects can face a maximum fine of RM10,000, a jail term of not more than four years or both if found guilty.
