Covid-19 Watch: 3,024 new cases, nationwide ICU bed usage at 64pc

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia recorded 3,024 new Covid-19 cases on Friday (Nov 25), bringing the total number of cases in the country to 4,981,374 infections since the pandemic began.

The Health Ministry’s KKMNow portal reported that 3,017 of Friday’s new Covid-19 cases were local transmissions while seven imported infections were logged.

There were 2,969 recoveries on Friday. This brings the cumulative number of recoveries in Malaysia to 4,917,827 since the pandemic began.

The portal also reported that there were 26,903 active cases currently in the country, with 24,752, or 92%, observing home quarantine and 10 individuals admitted to low-risk quarantine and treatment centres.

The KKMNow portal reported that 2,141 patients, or 7.96% of the total, were currently admitted to hospital for treatment. The number of Covid-19 patients warded at intensive care units (ICU) throughout the country stands at 92, with 52 of these patients requiring ventilation support.

The ICU utilisation rate nationwide stood at 64%, with ten states or localities recording ICU usage rates of more than 60%.

Putrajaya had the highest ICU utilisation rate at 85.7%, followed by Kedah (84.6%), Kelantan (83.1%), Selangor (76.8%), Melaka (73.2%), Perak (69.5%), Johor (68.8%), Penang (67.5%), Kuala Lumpur (60.9%) and Sabah (60.7%).

Meanwhile, the Health Ministry’s GitHub data repository reported that eight Covid-19 deaths were reported on Friday with two classified as Brought in Dead (BID).

This brings the death toll to 36,644.
