Delivery rider pleads not guilty to raping 16-year-old girl

IPOH: A food delivery rider pleaded not guilty to charges of raping a 16-year-old here at the Sessions Court here Thursday (July 28).

According to the charge sheet Afiq Yan Muhammad Farid Yan, 20, committed the offence at a hotel at around 12.30am on July 16.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Afiqa Liyana Rozman requested for RM10,000 bail.

Afiq is charged under Section 376 (1) of the Penal Code for committing rape against the victim, which carries a jail term of up to 20 years and whipping upon conviction.

Lawyer Mahajoth Singh, who represented the accused, asked for lower bail due to the accused’s background.

“The accused’s parents are doing odd jobs and his brother is about to enrol in a university soon.

“We would like to request for bail between RM5,000 to RM6,000,” he said.

Judge Norita Mohd Ardani set bail at RM5,000 with one surety and ordered Afiq not to disturb the victim.

Case is set to mention at Sept 9.

On July 20, six suspects aged between 16 and 21 years old were arrested for allegedly raping an underaged victim.

The victim’s mother lodged a police report after finding her daughter lying unconscious in a house at Panorama Lapangan Terbang here.

On July 28, police arrested another female suspect to assist in the case.
