Fire breaks out at JB night club

JOHOR BARU: Over 100 patrons of a night club at a duty-free zone in Stulang Laut here escaped unhurt after a fire broke out on Friday (Feb 10) night.

Johor Baru South OCPD Asst Comm Raub Selamat said police received a call about the fire at about 9.15pm.

“The Fire and Rescue Department along with police from Johor Baru South were deployed to the location and found fire engulfing the top part of the building.

“Firefighters managed to put out the blaze completely and are investigating the cause of the fire. No injuries were reported,” he said in a statement on Saturday (Feb 11).

He said that the night club was operating during the incident and there were between 130 and 150 people inside when the fire broke out.

Meanwhile, Larkin Fire and Rescue Department station chief Suhaimi Abdul Jamal said some 36 firemen were deployed to the scene to put off the fire.

“The fire involved a signboard at the third floor of the building. The roof and top part of the building were also damaged.

“We are still investigating the cause and amount of losses from the fire,” he said, adding that about 5% of the building was affected by the fire.
