Firefighters rescue trapped man in Kinabatangan tanker accident

KOTA KINABALU: Two men were injured from an accident involving a car and a palm oil tanker at Kinabatangan on Monday (Aug 8) night.

Firefighters had to assist in rescuing the 20-year-old driver who was trapped inside the car, after his vehicle hit the tyre of the tanker.

A passenger, 16, who was in the car, sustained minor injuries.

“The report first came in at 9.23pm about the accident at Jalan Sukau Sekong, Estet Kinabatangan.

“The tanker was heading towards the plantation road when the car hit it.

“The 36-year-old tanker driver managed to get out of the car on his own without any injuries, while the other driver was released using special tools.

“The team made further assessment to ensure there are no more risks before ending the operation at 11.27pm,” said the Fire and Rescue Department spokesman.
