Floods: 11 people in Pontian placed at temporary relief centre

PONTIAN: A total of 11 people from two families at Kampung Sri Gambut are seeking shelter at a temporary relief centre here as their homes were inundated with water.

According to the Malaysian Civil Defence Force, the victims were moved to the centre at SK Melayu Raya at 9.30am on Wednesday (May 4).

“The houses were flooded due to continuous heavy rain that fell since about 3.30am.

“At the moment, only one centre has been opened for the victims,” it said in a statement.

Meanwhile, centre manager Mohd Faidzullah Yusof said a few more evacuees affected by the flood would also be placed at the centre.

“They are now being transferred there.

“The situation is under control and the relevant agencies have deployed officers to assist.

“Three flood victims have health problems and we are making sure they are not affected by the situation,” he said.
