Floods: Authorities taking all measures to evacuate people from affected areas in Johor

KUALA LUMPUR: The authorities are taking all available actions to evacuate people from flood-hit areas in Johor, says Tan Sri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani.

The Inspector-General of Police said a total of six agencies were involved in these operations at Segamat involving 377 personnel.

“These personnel comprise 304 police personnel, 57 from the Army, 25 from the Fire and Rescue Department, 23 from Rela, 15 from the Civil Defence Force and 10 from the Special Malaysia Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team (SMART),” said Acryl Sani.

He added in a statement on Wednesday (Jan 5) that he had visited the preparations and deployment of Johor police for the flood operations at the scene command centre at the Segamat police club hall on Tuesday (Jan 4).

Acryl Sani said that he had observed the preparations accompanied by the Internal Security and Public Order director as well as the acting Johor police chief.

Acryl Sani said the police were also committed to ensuring the welfare of the community was preserved.

“In this aspect, I have ordered Internal Security and Public Order director Comm Datuk Hazani Ghazali to coordinate aid efforts via air or water for people who were cut off due to the floods.

“A police air wing unit helicopter will also be deployed to send basic needs to the people of Segamat as many roads have been inundated with water,” he added.

Acryl Sani said that elements of the General Operations Force, Marine Police, Air Wing Unit and Federal Reserve Unit personnel will be deployed for cleaning of public infrastructure and places of worship in Segamat.
