Floods: Number of victims displaced in Johor rises to 2,511

JOHOR BARU: The number of flood victims in the state has slightly increased to 2,511 at 8am on Sunday (Jan 29) from 2,481 four hours earlier.

The state Disaster Management Committee said as of 8am, there were still seven districts affected by flood and 33 temporary relief centres (PPS) in operation.

“The highest number of victims are from Mersing, with 836 people from 244 families, followed by Batu Pahat (694), Kluang (422), Kota Tinggi (416), Segamat (123), Tangkak (15) and Muar (5).

“Only one PPS has been opened, namely SK Tenglu, which houses victims from Kampung Air Papan and Kampung Tenglu, Mersing,” it said in a statement, here.

It added that the water level in Sungai Endau, Mersing, has exceeded the danger level by 2.93m from the normal level of 2.20m.

There are two roads being closed to all vehicles, located in Jalan Tanah Abang in Mersing due to flood and Jalan Sungai Tiram in Kulai due to a landslide.
