Forensic audit must be done on use of govt funds by previous govt, says Zahid

KUALA LUMPUR: Umno has demanded for a forensic audit on the use of government funds by the previous government, says Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi (pic).

The Umno president said the relevant agencies must take responsibility to probe the issue as that is the hope of the people and the responsibility of the government to ensure the demand was met.

“We, the delegates, want those who are hiding ‘under the carpet’ to be investigated and action to be taken against them.

“Previously, they labelled us as the court cluster, let’s see who will be the court cluster now,” he said in his policy speech when opening the Umno general assembly (AGM) on Friday (Jan 13).

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) had initiated a probe on the use of RM92.5bil of government funds by the Perikatan Nasional government.

Ahmad Zahid also hit out at Perikatan for declaring to be clean during their campaign in the last election.

“Are they concerned for the people or for their own families? Are they clean with the commissions they get?

“Whether they are truly concerned or clean, let us wait and see,” he said, adding that he will let the respective authorities conduct their investigation independently.
