Four bookies detained during anti-gambling raid in Kepong

KUALA LUMPUR: Four men, believed to be bookies taking World Cup bets, were detained following a raid on a house in Taman Bukit Maluri, Kepong.

Sentul OCPD Asst Comm Beh Eng Lai said the suspects aged between 40 and 48 were detained in the raid, which was conducted at about 10.15pm on Saturday (Nov 26).

“We believe the house was being used by the bookie agents as a centre for illegal online betting.

“We seized three mobile phones, a modem, a tablet, two laptops and a set of keys,” he said when contacted on Monday (Nov 28).

Initial investigations revealed that the betting syndicate has been operating for about a month, he said.

“The suspects have been remanded until Tuesday (Nov 29).

“One of them had prior criminal records,” he added.

ACP Beh said the public is advised to always abide by the laws and not be involved in any gambling activity.

“We will take stern action against anyone involved in illegal gambling.

“We urge those with information on any criminal activity to contact Sentul district police headquarters operations room at 03-4048 2222.
