Four civil servants nabbed so far this year for drug offences in Melaka

MELAKA: Four civil servants have been arrested by Melaka police since the beginning of this year for alleged drug trafficking and abuse.

State Narcotics Crime Investigation Dept chief Supt Zulkiflee Rashid said the arrests were made between Jan 1 and Sunday (Jan 16).

“Various substances were also confiscated from the suspects, including ganja and syabu,” he said here on Monday (Jan 17).

Supt Zulkiflee said all the suspects face charges under various Sections of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and all of them could face disciplinary action by their respective heads of department, if convicted.

He said the latest arrest involved a woman who works for the state government.

Supt Zulkiflee said the suspect was arrested along with her husband at a house in Pulau Gadong here during a midnight raid on Sunday (Jan 16).

He said the couple, in their 30s, had in their possession methamphetamine-type substances worth about RM4,000 when the arrest was made.

“The civil servant tested negative for drugs but her husband tested positive,” he said.

He added that the couple has been remanded until Jan 22 to assist in the probe under Section 39A(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
