GE15: Crowd smaller than GE14 at several polling centres, says Dr Wee

YONG PENG: The voting crowd in several polling centres on Saturday morning looked smaller compared to the previous general election, says MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

The Barisan Nasional candidate for the Ayer Hitam parliamentary seat said the rain, which has been ongoing since around 6am on polling day, could be one of the reasons why.

“There were many voters who cast their vote early between 8am to 10am as they were worried that the rain might get heavier in the afternoon,” said Dr Wee.

“However, looking at the queue and time spent during the voting process, the crowd seems smaller this time round,” he added.

Dr Wee said that he hopes more will head out to cast their vote through the day.

“Some of them could still be on their way home to cast their vote as it is a public holiday in Malaysia and Singapore has also started their school holidays,” he told reporters after casting his vote at SK Yong Peng here.

He added that he would be visiting several polling centres in the constituency to observe the situation.

Earlier, Dr Wee and his wife Datin Seri Jessica Lim Hai Ean casted their ballot at around 11am, along with Yong Peng assemblyman Ling Tian Soon and his wife Tan Thin Thin.

Dr Wee is a four-term Ayer Hitam incumbent seeking his fifth and he is going against Sheikh Umar Bagharib Ali (Pakatan Harapan-DAP) and Muhammad Syafiq A. Aziz (Perikatan Nasional-Bersatu).
