GE15: Halimah decides to ‘balik kampung’ to Kluang to help BN candidate’s campaign

KLUANG: Though not contesting as a candidate in the 15th General Election (GE15), Datuk Halimah Mohamed Sadique decided to “balik kampung” to help the Barisan Nasional candidate in his campaign for the Kluang parliamentary seat.

The former Kota Tinggi MP, whose hometown is in Kluang, has been helping her coalition colleague Gan Ping Sieu from MCA to canvass votes in the constituency.

“I was born in Kampung Gunung Lambak here and I do not want to miss helping Gan and his team in their campaign, especially in the challenging GE15 climate.

“The remaining three days of campaigning before polling day on Nov 19 is the last chance for us to help Gan, who was the deputy youth and sports minister in 2008, win,” she said after accompanying Gan to a dinner with the Chinese associations here on Tuesday (Nov 15) night.

Halimah, who is also National Unity Minister, believes a multiracial campaign entourage would leave a positive impression among voters.

She also reminded the people and all candidates contesting in GE15 to refrain from using racially-charged issues to gain votes.

“It is not worth hurting the nation’s racial harmony with sensitive matters such as race and religion just to help the candidate win,” she added.

Gan, who is former Mengkibol assemblyman, is seeking to capture the parliamentary seat in a four-cornered fight with incumbent Wong Shu Qi (Pakatan Harapan-DAP), Dzulkarnain Alias (Perikatan Nasional-Bersatu) and U. Ramendran (Independent).

Malaysians will cast their votes for GE15 on Nov 19 after a 14-day campaigning period.
