GE15: Sarawak’s new voters eager to cast ballots, want govt that prioritises the people

KUCHING: New voters in Sarawak are eager to cast their ballots for the first time in the 15th General Election (GE15).

For these young voters, it was important to choose a government that prioritises the needs of the people.

Fifi Nur Athirah Adira Fandy, 19, said she wanted the new government to continue helping Sarawakians.

“During the Covid-19 pandemic, my family received food assistance from the government.

“A government that will do its best to help the people is important to me,” she said.

Nur’alieyah Mohamad Salleh, 18, said she was excited at the prospect of voting for the first time in GE15.

“For me, it’s important to choose a stable government that will help Sarawakians,” she said.

A trio of National Craft Institute trainees also said they looked forward to having a say in electing the next government.

“This year I will be voting for the first time and I want to choose a good government,” Syahirah Rasaie said.

Allyssa Amanda, 20, added that she hoped the new government would continue providing assistance to youths.

Vercerliza Julin, 20, said she looked forward to voting for the first time.

“I’m learning how to weave pua (Iban ceremonial textile) at the National Craft Institute.

“As a student, I hope the government can provide assistance for studies and future business ventures,” she said.
