GE15: Shahidan’s influence will help Perikatan take Perlis, says Hadi

BACHOK: Perikatan Nasional hopes to build on Arau incumbent Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim’s influence in Perlis to snatch the state from Barisan Nasional in the 15th General Election (GE15).

The coalition’s deputy chairman and PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang said it will be a new milestone if it can add Perlis to the list of states being led by his party.

“Shahidan has a strong influence in Perlis. God willing, if our way is correct, we will be able to take over Perlis after Kelantan, Terengganu and Kedah.

“God willing we will add one more state under our governance,” he said in a ceramah during the PAS President’s Tour in Bachok on Monday (Nov 7).

Abdul Hadi said Perikatan candidates were willing to give up their spot for Shahidan and Datuk Seri Dr Ismail Abd Muttalib to compete in the Arau and Maran, Pahang seats respectively in GE15.

“They are willing to compete (using) our symbol. Our candidates are also willing to withdraw from competing to make way for them,” he said.

Shahidan and Ismail were among those dropped as GE15 candidates by Umno and Barisan Nasional. They later announced that they would defend their seats under Perikatan’s banner.

Abdul Hadi added that PAS had yet to decide if it would collaborate with Umno in the Kelantan, Kedah, Terengganu and other state elections due next year.
