GE15: Winning over fence-sitters my forte, says Mohd Khairuddin

KUALA TERENGGANU: Incumbent Kuala Nerus MP Datuk Dr Mohd Khairuddin Aman Razali aims to win over fence-sitters as part of his game plan in the upcoming 15th General Election (GE15).

The Barisan Nasional candidate said he had been successful in winning their hearts in the last general election where he successfully defended the seat as a PAS candidate.

“Looking at my development in politics, I saw that I was able to grab on-the-fence voters (and) that led PAS to win.

“I feel like (my ability will add to) Barisan’s strength as I have been a representative of the rakyat for nine years,” he added.

Mohd Khairuddin said he was confident that his experience as an MP and former plantation industries and commodities minister will help him retain the seat and contribute to Barisan forming the next Federal Government

He said he has been bombarded with calls and text messages from the grassroots urging him to start campaigning.

Mohd Khairuddin said on Friday (Nov 4) he was gearing up to meet his supporters.

Nomination Day is on Saturday (Nov 5).

Mohd Khairuddin declined to comment on his rival for the seat, Perikatan Nasional’s Datuk Dr Alias Razak, but hoped that their two factions could deny a Pakatan Harapan victory.

“I leave it to PAS to help me ensure that Pakatan will not form the federal government. For this, Barisan needs to win (many) parliamentary seats,” he said.

On Thursday, Barisan announced that Mohd Khairuddin, a former member of the PAS central committee, would be fielded as a direct candidate similar to Che Abdullah Mat Nawi in Tumpat.

Mohd Khairuddin, a two-term MP, defeated Umno and Amanah candidates by 8,447 votes in GE14.

He left PAS in March and has been sitting as an independent MP in the Dewan Rakyat.
