GOF seizes contraband diesel worth more than RM800,000 in Sibu

SIBU: The 10th Battalion General Operations Force has scored a major success by seizing 6,000 litres of contraband diesel worth RM818,900 on Wednesday (Jan 12).

Battalion commanding officer Supt Mohammad Hafiz Kadir said on Thursday (Jan 13) that three local men aged from 27 to 37 years old were also arrested in the 2.30pm Ops Kontraban raid at a jetty in Sungai Merah here.

A vessel worth an estimated RM500,000 and a tanker truck worth about RM300,000 were also seized.

“The three suspects were transferring diesel from a tanker truck to a fishing vessel anchored at a public jetty when our team showed up,” Supt Mohammad Hafiz said.

He added that the team then inspected the vessel and found six barrels of diesel on board.

He said diesel was also found in the tanker truck.

“The suspects failed to submit valid documents of ownership of the diesel,”he said.

The three suspects together with the confiscated items had been referred to the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry’s Sibu branch for further action, he added.
