GPS to ensure win in Puncak Borneo seat regardless of candidate, says PBB’s Jerip

KUCHING: The Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) machinery in the Puncak Borneo parliamentary seat will work together to ensure a victory for the state coalition regardless of the candidate, says a party leader.

Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) supreme council member Datuk Dr Jerip Susil (pic) said the machinery in the three state constituencies under Puncak Borneo had been ready since last December’s state election.

“Our machinery has always been there, so when the time comes we’ll just trigger the same machinery as before,” he told reporters after launching the AirAsia Ride ehailing service here on Thursday (Oct 27).

Dr Jerip, who is Mambong assemblyman, declined to comment on speculations that Puncak Borneo incumbent Datuk Willie Mongin would be fielded by GPS to defend the seat in the 15th General Election (GE15).

“We leave it to the Premier (Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg) to decide. As far as we know, each constituency is working towards a win for GPS,” he said.

Puncak Borneo consists of the Mambong, Tarat and Serembu state seats.

Willie won the seat on a PKR ticket in 2018 but quit the party following the collapse of the Pakatan Harapan administration in 2020.

He subsequently applied to join PBB and was accepted this year.

Dr Jerip also said he had no personal views on whether Willie should be the GPS candidate.

“At the end of the day, what’s important is that GPS wins,” he said.
