Heaps of praise for riders who sprang into action to help abduction victim

KUALA LUMPUR: Social media users are full of praise for several motorcycle riders who went out of their way to assist a man who was abducted in a white Toyota Vellfire in Pandan Indah regardless of racial differences.

The riders risked their own safety chasing after the vehicle along the MRR2 on Thursday (Sept 29). The video of the abduction and the actions of the riders has since gone viral.

A Facebook user posted that tens of Malay riders ganged up and risked their lives to help the Chinese victim by chasing the vehicle to bring attention to the incident.

“This is the real semangat (spirit) of Keluarga Malaysia where Malaysians help one another without seeing the skin colour,” the social media user said.

Another Facebook user saluted the riders, saying they deserved medals for their bravery.

“Many looked on and went on their merry way but these humble riders did their best to help the poor guy,” the user said.

Another social media user said riders were always the first to step in and offer assistance.

“Some even risked their lives trying to help victims,” said the post.

It was reported that a 38-year-old businessman was abducted in front of a restaurant in Pandan Indah by a group of men in a white Toyota Vellfire at 5.03pm on Thursday.

Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Farouk Eshak had said the victim had gone to a restaurant alone when he was approached by a group of men.

“He was approached by a group of men who forced him into the Vellfire. The victim shouted for help to no avail,” he said.

However, the victim was later released and went straight to the Ampang Jaya police headquarters at about 10.45pm on Thursday, he said.

“He suffered injuries to his face and legs. He was treated at Hospital Ampang.

“We believe the incident occurred due to an unpaid debt,” he said.

The incident has since gone viral on WhatsApp and social media platforms, he said.

“We are still tracking down the suspects involved in the abduction,” he said.

ACP Mohamad Farouk thanked the public who tried to assist the victim during the incident.

“We also advise the public not to get involved in taking loans from unlicensed parties,” he said.
