ICAO chief appreciates Malaysia’s support, says Dr Wee

PETALING JAYA: The president of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) has expressed his appreciation to Malaysia for its support of ICAO and its initiatives, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

Dr Wee, who paid a courtesy call on ICAO president Salvatore Sciacchitano at its headquarters in Montreal in conjunction with the 41st ICAO General Assembly, said this was their fifth meeting since he became Transport Minister.

“He also wished us great success as we campaigned for support to be re-elected to the ICAO Council Part III.

“He also impressed upon us matters pertaining to environment sustainability such as support for the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (Corsia),” he said in a Facebook post on Tuesday (Sept 27).

Dr Wee said he also reaffirmed the country’s support for ICAO and commitment towards upholding the principles of the agency’s conventions.

ICAO is a specialised agency of the United Nations that coordinates principles and techniques of international air navigation.

It also promotes the planning and development of international air transport for safe, orderly growth.
