Johor floods: Number of evacuees drops to two digits as of noon Feb 7

JOHOR BARU: The number of flood victims in Johor has dropped to double digits for the first time since the floods hit several districts some two weeks ago.

According to the state disaster management committee, as of noon on Tuesday (Feb 7) there were 70 people seeking shelter at three temporary relief centres in Batu Pahat, Segamat and Mersing.

“One temporary relief centre, which is SK Sri Sejati in Batu Pahat, has ceased operations. There are currently 37 evacuees at Dewan Orang Ramai Sri Medan.

“This is followed by Segamat with 26 villagers from Kampung Seberang Batu Badak relocated to Balairaya Kampung Seberang Batu Badak,” it said in a statement.

The committee added that Mersing had seven victims from Kampung Jemari seeking shelter at Sekolah Agama Pengkalan Batu.

Earlier, there were 163 people at four relief centres in Johor.
