Johor polls: MCA to analyse performance to see how to improve, says Dr Wee

JOHOR BARU: MCA will analyse its performance in the just-concluded Johor polls to improve in the future, says party president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

Dr Wee thanked the people for their support, which helped the party win four seats on Saturday (March 12).

“With the wins, we have an even heavier responsibility to shoulder and MCA will conduct an analysis and see how we can improve and move forward as a party at both the state and federal level,” said Dr Wee.

“The win has given more motivation to MCA as there were seats we lost with big majorities in the 14th General Election and this election we managed to get a majority of about 2,700,” he added.

Dr Wee said this when speaking to reporters after celebrating Barisan Nasional’s win at the Johor Umno headquarters late Saturday night.

MCA delivered four seats with a handsome majority – Yong Peng, Paloh, Bekok and Pekan Nanas.

In Yong Peng, the party’s Ling Tian Soon won with a 2,741 majority in a three-cornered fight, while in Bekok, Tan Chong clinched a 3,569 majority against three other rivals.

In Pekan Nanas, Tan Eng Meng won with a 5,248 majority in a four way battle while in Paloh, unofficial results as of press time showed that MCA’s Lee Ting Han won with a 3,176 majority against three other candidates.

Dr Wee added that a press conference is expected to be held on Sunday (March 13) afternoon with the four new elected representatives to thank their supporters and the voters.

The final official results of the March 12 Johor state election was announced by the Election Commission with Barisan taking the largest chunk of seats at 40 out of the state’s 56 seats.

The final tally was announced slightly after midnight on Sunday (March 13).
