Johor polls: Pakatan announces seat allocation but still open to talks with Muda, Pejuang

JOHOR BARU: Pakatan Harapan components PKR and Parti Amanah Negara will take on 20 seats apiece in the upcoming Johor state election while DAP is contesting 16 seats.

This seat allocation, announced by Amanah president Mohamad Sabu on Thursday (Jan 27), is an increase from the 14th General Election in 2018 when PKR and Amanah vied for 12 seats each and DAP, 14.

Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) was part of Pakatan then and stood in 18 seats.

The Kota Raja MP added that the seat allocation was finalised at a Pakatan presidential council meeting on Wednesday (Jan 26).

“Though the seats have been decided, we are also open to discussions with any parties that want to work with Pakatan in the upcoming polls.

“If they have a winning chance, all three components of Pakatan will have a joint discussion about it before deciding,” he told a press conference after meeting members of the public with Pasir Gudang MP Hassan Abdul Karim in Permas Jaya here.

Mohamad added that the parties Pakatan is willing to consider under these circumstances are the Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda) and Parti Pejuang Tanah Air (Pejuang).

Meanwhile, state Amanah chairman Aminolhuda Hassan said the party’s list of candidates for the Johor election had also been finalised.

“From the 20, six candidates are retained (from GE14) while the other 14 are new faces, some of them young candidates.

“The list has been compiled and we are just waiting for approval from the central committee,” he added.

The state assembly was dissolved on Jan 22 with the consent of Johor Ruler Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar.
