KL cops nab 11 for drink-driving

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have detained 11 men for driving while intoxicated in a traffic operation here.

Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Asst Comm Sarifudin Mohd Salleh said the men, aged between 22 and 62 years old, were arrested during the operation conducted at the city centre, Jalan Pahang, Jalan Raja Laut, Jalan Kuching, Jalan Genting Klang and the Duke expressway from Friday (May 13) until Sunday (May 15).

“The blood alcohol level of those detained was beyond the permitted limit.

“We are investigating them under Section 45(A) of the Road Transport Act 1987,” he said in a statement on Sunday.

Seven other men were also detained for riding their motorcycles dangerously and performing stunts, he added.

“They were brought to the Kuala Lumpur traffic police station for further action.

“We are investigating under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987,” he added.

ACP Sarifudin said 849 summonses were issued for various traffic offences during the operation.

“Five motorcycles were also seized for illegal exhaust modifications,” he said.

More than 80 traffic personnel and officers were involved in the operation, he added.

“We will step up such operations during weekends to ensure the safety of all road users.
