Lorry attendant killed in crash on NSE near Tapah

IPOH: A 41-year-old lorry attendant died in an accident involving a lorry and a trailer at KM350.4 of the North-South Expressway northbound at Tapah.

The accident occurred at 8am Friday (Feb 10), Tapah OCPD Supt Wan Azharuddin Wan Ismail said in a statement.

“The victim, identified as S. Umabathi, was heading to Ipoh from Kuala Lumpur in a lorry carrying fish.

“The lorry driver lost control of his vehicle and crashed into the trailer,” he said.

Supt Wan Azharuddin said lorry driver R. Sehgar, 49, suffered injuries to his shoulder, right hand and leg while the trailer driver was unharmed.

“The crash caused the victim to be thrown out through the windscreen. He was run over by the lorry and died at the scene.

“We have sent the body for a post-mortem at Hospital Tapah,” he said, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
