MACC seeking best way for public to follow probes’ progress

PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) will find the best way for the public to follow the progress of investigations and prosecution in its cases, says Tan Sri Azam Baki (pic).

The MACC chief commissioner said this was to change the perception held by some that the graft-buster only went after “ikan bilis” (small fry) and not the bigger sharks.

“This is (a misperception) because sometimes people don’t keep up with media reports. Every high-profile case we investigate has been reported on, including the prosecutions,” he said in a recent interview.

MACC always did its best when acting against corruption cases involving leakages that would be detrimental to the people and the country, he added.

On transparency in investigations, Azam said MACC had a complaints committee and strict action would be taken against any personnel involved in corruption or misconduct.

“We will charge them (MACC personnel) ourselves in court if there is misconduct.

“I will not compromise if any of my officers or personnel are involved in misconduct,” he added. – Bernama
